Passive-Aggressive Donations…

Hi everyone,
I am writing because I was outraged and heartbroken at the passing of proposition 8 here in CA. Stripping away civil rights from our fellow citizens is a scary, slippery slope. I feel very strongly that we should stand up to discrimination and demand equal rights for everyone regardless of gender, race, age, or sexual orientation.

One of the reasons proposition 8 passed was because of it’s enormous financial support from religious organizations, both in and outside of CA. Many of these organizations rely on contributions from people like you and me and we need to let them know we will not support them as long as our money is supporting discrimination. When you put one of these ‘anti discrimination bucks’ in their collection basket you are sending the message that their discrimination is hurting their bottom line. This is an easy way to get the point across without starting a fight with the person sitting at a folding table in front of a store, which is very tempting sometimes.

Keep a couple of these bucks folded in your wallet to use when you need them. Give a few to your friends who don’t have a computer/printer. The more of us that do this the stronger our message will be. Though I am especially upset with groups that supported prop 8 I don’t think we should tolerate discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender people by any organization in any situation. Unfortunately some of these groups also do admirable charity work but they should be able to do that without promoting hate and fear.
